New Opportunity

We have a new opportunity to serve our community at large through Dorcas House, but we need someone to chair this ministry. Police and firemen carry small bears to give to children involved in accidents , fires or other trauma and we have the opportunity to make these bears for this use. They are simple bears (see picture) and volunteers are needed to make all or part of the bears. You can cut out the bears, embroider their faces, sew them, stuff them, put on the ribbon ties or make the entire bear. Materials will be furnished through Dorcas House and you may work from home rather than at Dorcas House. The chair would coordinate with and pass out the materials to the volunteers, as well as delivering the finished bears to the police and firemen. This could be a one time push to make a large number, or an on-going ministry to supply a certain number a month. If you are interested in serving as the Chair of this ministry or would like to volunteer to work in it please contact Mary Ellen Evans ASAP.

Summer Sewing Camp

In the months of June, July and August there will be a one week per month Sewing Camp where youths ages 10-18 can learn to sew. You will begin by making a simple pillow case and finish (if you wish) by making a simple quilt. Adult seamstress to help teach are also needed. You can sign up for one week or all three weeks of camp. Please enroll by May 15th, so that materials can be purchased and classes organized. If you are interested in enrolling in camp or helping with it, please contact Nan Blount.
