“Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks. And God’s peace, which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7

Prayer: Part 1
Father’s Love – A Story of Faith in Prayer

by Gina Newton

How is your faith? I mean the faith that God not only can but that He will answer prayer. How is that faith? When you ask God for healing for yourself or someone dear, do you believe He will? When you have an unsaved loved one, do you pray believing that God will bring them to salvation? When you present a financial or emotional need to Him, do you expect God to take care of it? When you request prayer of others, do you believe that God will answer your “concert of prayer”?

I admit that in recent years, my faith in this area has struggled. Prayer is one of my spiritual gifts and I have always known that God answered prayer because time and again, I have seen it. Miracles of healing. Miracles of salvation. Financial and emotional miracles. Answers! And sometimes the hard answer, “No, my child.” But when the big “no” came five years ago, I struggled and began to find myself praying “Nevertheless, not my will but Thine” to give myself a faith “out” rather than in submission to God’s sovereign will and wisdom. Then, a bit more than two years ago, I came to Central, and I met Larry Bobbitt. And God used Larry to help heal my doubt.

From the very first Wednesday night I attended Central, I heard it. At every prayer request opportunity, Larry said, “Pray for my son, David, that he would come back to the Lord.” Every. Single. Time. Never did he not raise his hand and ask for prayer for his precious child whom he loved more than his own life! After a bit, I found myself thinking,
