Change Through Godís Strength

 by Rachel Moore

I've been pondering legalism verses grace. And works verses grace. For awhile I have noticed something and that is where there is "cheap grace" the focus is on self. "God exists to make me happy" is a modern way of thinking. (this is total heresy by the way!)

However, on the opposite end of the spectrum, you have the legalistic way of thinking or works thinking, which is equally self-focused. This way of thinking says, "It's all up to me. It's MY effort, MY victory over sin, MY ability to change myself." It's all about "ME ME ME!" and this is also total heresy!

It is such a subtle lie that the enemy tosses at people. Satan's goal is to steal glory and praise from God. So he tempts us according to our personalities and our upbringing. The touchy feely emotional people tend to latch onto cheap grace and gravitate towards only hearing the love of God and not the consequences and judgement of sin.

The more serious personalities are given over to legalism, works and self-effort. "Now that Iím a Christian itís up to me to conquer sin!" "I vow before God to change this in my life. I will be strong! I will conquer the sin in my life!"
In reality they are both lies from the evil one and focused on self.
